JULY MONTHLY MEDAL

After an extremely frosty start to the day on Saturday 65 players turned up for the July Monthly Medal sponsored by Ross Chivers and Robert Oliver. The highlight of the day belonged to Braydon Chew who had a Hole in One on the 7th Hole. Morgan Insurance - our Hole in One sponsor has again donated a $1,000 worth of Golf Club vouchers for Braydon’s perfect shot. I am sure he will put those to good use.

Onto the results of the Monthly Medal. The course is proving to play quiet tough at the moment with the greens firming up due to the morning frosts, with only 1 player breaking their handicap. That was Jarrod Harding with a nett score of 70 for the day taking out the A Grade medal. In second place was Kim Reid with a Nett 72. The A Grade Gross also went to Jarrod Harding with a 75.
B Grade was a tight contest with Graeme Clements beating Wayne Middleton on a count back after both recording Nett scores of 72. David Thomas won the B Grade Gross with a score of 86.
Finally making a break through in the C Grade medal was Greg Bowen having a nett 71 beating out Keith Miller (74) by 3 shots. The Gross was won by Wayne Rodwell with 93.

Our Cowra Subway Nearest to Pins went to Noel Riley on the 5th (39cm) Braydon Chew on the 7th with his Hole in One, Paul Jones took out the 14th after hitting it to 130cm and John Harrigan (735cm) won the 16th.
Leigh Browne Builder sponsored Nearest to Pins on the 3rd was Leigh Browne (132cm) and the 10th was Simon MacKinney (253cm) Mark Dixon won the Pro Pin on the 12th hole (170cm)

This Saturday we have the LJ Hooker Sponsored Stableford event which is also the 3rd Qualifying round for the Handiskins.

The course is in good condition and the weather is looking good so get your names in for this weekend.

2016 MENS FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS                          Sponsored by Lachlan Engineering & Sheehy's Pest Control
Saturday 16th July the Cowra Golf Club held it's 2016 Foursomes Championships sponsored jointly by Lachlan Engineering and Sheehy's Pest Control. The club would like to thank Lachlan Engineering for their continued support of Cowra Golf and welcome Mick and Doug on board as a new sponsor. On a day that was perfect for golf, we witnessed friends punish each other with poor shots and then follow it up with a laugh and perhaps a few tears here and there. Foursomes is a tough game to master and few did it better than Ben Core and Grant Glendenning who fired a fantastic nett 66 in the alternate shot format to claim the score of the day. In A Grade two teams couldn't be separated after 18 holes and had to head back to the 18th for a playoff to determine the 2016 Foursomes Champions. Wally Webb and partner Rod McDonald took on 2 time defending champions Leigh Browne and Jacob Moodie after both teams signed for 76 in regulation play. After a fantastic wedge shot into the green from Jacob Moodie and an even better pitch from Rod McDonald it came down to a putt off. Browne and Moodie struggled to find the bottom of the hole leaving it to Webb and McDonald to 2 putt and take the victory. B Grade was almost as tight with Dion McAlister and Simon MacKinney taking a 1 shot victory over Les Pinkerton and John Holmes. The highlight of the day in B Grade was Scott Wilson discovering after 8 years that his 1 iron that he never used was in fact a 4 iron!! As they say some mothers do av'em.

Saturday Stableford
Sponsored by Telescope Tyres & Batteries
Saturday 23rd July Cowra Golf Club held a Stableford event sponsored by Telescope Tyres and Batteries. The Cowra Golf Club would like to thank the team from Telescope Tyres and Batteries for their continued generous support of the Cowra Golf Club. After a big storm Friday night the course was made playable thanks to the hard work of Supernintendo Troy Hayes, Club President Robert Oliver, his son Nick and Vice President John Campbell who spend the morning manning chainsaws cutting up and removing a number of trees and limbs that had been dislodged throughout the course. Scoring proved to be quite difficult with the course playing very long thanks to the overnight drenching along with a solid breeze sweeping across the fairways. David Fagan after some recent poor form snuck in during the week for a lesson and it proved to be a very wise decision as he had the score of the day with 38 points including an eagle on his first hole of the day. Chris Wilson and Matt Thompson continued their recent good form with 37 points along with Ed Anthony and Jacob McNaught who were the only players to better their handicaps on the day.

2016 Jamieson's Joinery & Building Centre Cowra Open

Over the weekend 13th & 14th August the Cowra Golf Club held our Open Tournament sponsored by Jamieson's Joinery & Building Centre along with supporting sponsors Cowra Outdoor Power Equipment Service, Morgan Insurance Group, Cowra Tyre and Brake and the Cowra Veteran Golfers. The Cowra Golf Club would like to thank our generous sponsors for their continued support of our club and major events. Without sponsors we wouldn't be able to hold tournaments like these. After a winter were damp overcast conditions have been the norm, mother nature turned one on for us over the weekend with two days of perfect sunny weather greeting golfers who tackled a course prepared brilliantly by our course Superintendant Troy Hayes along with the help of our veteran volunteers. Saturday we had 116 starters in the 4BBB Stableford event. Many a funny incident occurred Saturday along with some very good golf. Scoring was quite difficult over the weekend with the greens very slick and putts hard to make. 2016 Cowra Open Tournament Saturday 4BBB Stableford Ladies 1st – Carol Carter & Dina Stuart 42 points 2nd – Judy Benson & Kelly Quigley 40 points Mens Nett 1st – Garry Picker & Ralph Stretton 46 points 2nd – Jacob McNaught & Jim McNaught 45 points Scratch 1st – Peter Kirwan & Andrew Dukes 36 scratch points 2nd – Matt Thompson & Michael Curtale 35 scratch points Subway NTP’s 5th – Frank Pugliese 7th – Lloyd Garrett 14th – David Thomas 16th – Mick Jordan Sunday we had 108 starters in the Cowra Open. The players were greeted with an even better day than Saturday. Again the course was immaculate with the greens running fast and true, although many found making putts quite difficult not a complaint was recorded. After 18 holes in the Open Andrew Tharle led the field on even par. He continued his solid play up until the last green where he faltered for the first time for the day. It didn't matter at that point as he had built a good lead to hold off Jake Mitchell and Peter Kirwan by 3 shots. The story of the day belongs to young Jayden Brown. Jayden was the only player in the field to better his handicap in both the 18 hole and final 9 holes. This comes after Jayden won his first monthly medal 1 week prior. I'm sure the handicapper will be checking out his handicap this week!! 2016 Jamieson’s Joinery & Building Centre Cowra Open Ladies 18 hole Scratch Winner – Kelly Quigley – 16 Hcap – 87 Runner Up – Jenny Dresser – 12 Hcap – 93 Nett Winner – Andrea Gration – 21 Hcap – 78 nett Runner Up – Karen Pennell – 28 Hcap – 80 nett Men’s 18 Hole A Grade Scratch – Jake Davies Hcap +2 73 Nett – Bruce Bullock Hcap 10 72 nett B Grade Scratch – Simon Mackinney Hcap 16 89 C/B Nett – Darrell Colemane Hcap 18 76 nett C Grade Scratch – William Bright Hcap 23 96 Nett – Paul Dresser Hcap 19 75 nett Men’s 27 hole Handicap A Grade Winner – Clyde Draper Hcap 11 108 nett Runner Up – Luke Bartlett Hcap 3 110 nett B Grade Winner – David Gouge Hcap 17 112 nett Runner Up – Chris Wilson Hcap 14 113 nett C Grade Winner – Jayden Brown Hcap 34 103 nett Runner Up – Warwick Spence Hcap 25 108 nett Men’s 27 Hole Scratch C Grade Winner – Ed Anthony Hcap 21 137 Runner Up – Hayden Smith Hcap 21 140 B Grade Winner – Dale Lawrence Hcap 13 123 Runner Up – Brad Bailey Hcap 14 132 A Grade Winner – Andrew Tharle Hcap +2 110 Runner Up – Jake Mitchell Hcap +3 113 C/B
